Overview

The Surin Islands lie further out and emptier than the Similans, with the shallowest, fishiest reefs on the coast — snorkelling straight from the beach. Add the village of the Moken, the sea nomads of Surin Tai, a Thai buffet in the national park and three snorkelling stops in different bays.

Speedboat. The classic: a covered speedboat with two outboards for up to 20 guests, or three for up to 32. Fast and agile — the shortest way to the islands.

    Meet the guide at the pier, then out to the Surins — the crossing takes a good hour.

    A walk through the village of the sea nomads — some 70 households, with a school and a health post.

    First snorkelling stop in the big bay.

    The national park beach: a swim, sun, shade under the trees.
